Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Safa (“the App”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Description of Service
Safa is an Islamic companion app that provides:
- Prayer times based on your location
- Quran text with translations
- Hadith collections
- Dhikr and dua references
- An AI companion for Islamic questions (on-device)
- Learning tools for Arabic and Tajweed
- Progress tracking and gamification features
Important Disclaimers
Religious Guidance
Safa is a tool for learning and practice, not a replacement for qualified Islamic scholarship.
- Consult qualified scholars for personal religious rulings (fatwas), especially regarding marriage, divorce, inheritance, and financial matters
- Content is informational and represents general Islamic knowledge from mainstream sources
- Differences exist between schools of thought (madhabs); the App attempts to present multiple views where relevant
- The AI companion provides educational information but is not a scholar, mufti, or religious authority
Prayer Times
Prayer times are calculated using established astronomical algorithms. However:
- Verify important prayers (especially Fajr and Maghrib during Ramadan) with local mosques or Islamic centers
- Calculation methods vary by region and scholarly opinion
- You are responsible for choosing the appropriate calculation method for your location and madhab
Accuracy of Content
While we strive for accuracy in Quranic text, translations, and hadith:
- Translations are interpretations and may not capture full meaning
- Always refer to qualified teachers for proper understanding
- Report errors if you find any, so we can correct them
Acceptable Use
You agree to use Safa only for lawful purposes consistent with Islamic ethics. You may not:
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the App
- Use the App to spread misinformation about Islam
- Redistribute the App’s content without permission
- Use the App in any way that violates applicable law
Intellectual Property
App Content
- Quranic text is the word of Allah and is not subject to copyright
- Translations may be subject to copyright by their respective authors/publishers and are used under license or fair use
- Hadith collections are sourced from public domain classical texts
- App design, code, and original content are owned by the developers of Safa
Your Content
Any bookmarks, notes, or personal data you create within the App remain yours. We do not claim any ownership over your personal data.
Availability and Updates
- The App is provided “as is” and we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability
- We may update the App periodically to fix bugs, add features, or improve performance
- We may discontinue the App at any time, though we will attempt to provide notice
- Some features may require specific iOS versions
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Safa is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied
- We are not liable for any spiritual, religious, or personal decisions you make based on the App’s content
- We are not liable for missed prayers due to incorrect times, app crashes, or notification failures
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the App
In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you paid for the App (which is zero, since the App is free).
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Safa’s developers from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.
Third-Party Services
The App integrates with:
- Apple HealthKit for optional fasting data sync (governed by Apple’s terms)
- Apple MapKit/CoreLocation for prayer times and Qibla direction (governed by Apple’s terms)
- Apple Speech Recognition for optional pronunciation practice (governed by Apple’s terms)
- Quran audio CDNs (quranicaudio.com, islamic.network) for recitation audio downloads
We are not responsible for third-party services’ availability, accuracy, or policies.
Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be effective when posted. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
For significant changes, we will attempt to notify users through the App.
Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it from your device.
We reserve the right to terminate or restrict access to the App for users who violate these Terms, though given our privacy-first design, enforcement options are limited.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
